Build Quality and Design
The housing is constructed of die-cast and stainless steel along with BPA-free plastic parts.
Fully assembled, the juicer clocks in at:
- 14.5 inches wide (36.8 cm)
- 16.5 inches tall (41.9 cm)
- 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms)
While it has a quality feel to it, I’m not too comfortable with the fragility of the plastic hinges, so I recommend handling them with care as they may snap.
The Cuisinart CJE-1000 is a large and tall machine that will occupy a lot of space on your kitchen countertop, so make sure you have adequate space for it.
It comes with a large 67.6 oz. pulp collector as well as a 33.8 juice jug with a foam separator. These should both be big enough to let you make a large quantity of juice without interruptions.
A 3-inch wide feed chute lets you easily fit most bulky produce into the juicer without a need for pre-cutting, saving you time.
The attached anti-drip adjustable flow spout is a great feature helping to prevent the usual dripping on the table when you remove the juice jug away from the spout.
However, some reviews and several users have pointed out that it’s not easy to tell when the flow spout is open or closed, as the markings are not clear. Furthermore, it doesn’t always seem to work as some juice may still drip through.
On the inside, the foam management filter disk works in tandem with the adjustable flow spout to control how much foam ends up in your juice. So if you like a frothy juice, or not, then you have full control to decide the texture of your juice.
Juice Quality and Yield
Provided you’ve used a palatable combination of ingredients, this juicer will give you a great tasting and fairly pulp-free juice.
As mentioned earlier, the foam management filter disk along with the juice jug’s foam separator helps you control how much foam you want in your juice.
Multiple reviewers have been disappointed by the comparatively less juice and more wet pulp the Cuisinart CJE-1000 yields, especially from citruses and other soft fruits as well as kale and leafy greens in general. Some feel it’s a poor produce volume to juice yield ratio.
But as expected from most centrifugal juicers, it does perform better with hard produce like:
- apples
- beets
- carrots
- celery
- cucumbers
- radishes
Also, if you get a lot of wet pulp, you can try re-juicing it on the lowest speed setting as this can give you a few more ounces.
Performance and Noise
Despite the powerful motor, the Cuisinart CJE-1000 is only slightly louder in operation than its sibling Cuisinart CJE-500. So both of these are great options if you’re looking for a juicer that won’t make a lot of noise.
Noise level is especially important to consider if:
- you can only juice in the morning or late evenings
- you live in an apartment with poor noise isolation and grumpy neighbors
- you have pets or children that are sensitive to loud noise
It’s a fast juicer and you should be able to have fresh juice made and ready to go within 2 minutes from when you first turn on the machine.
Is It Easy to Use?
This juicer is slightly difficult to assemble and disassemble. I’ve seen feedback from other users saying the same thing, most related to removing the filter mesh.
Instead of a single button operation, you get an on/off LED-lit button wrapped within a 5-speed dial control. While it’s not complicated to operate, it may take a couple tries to get the hang of which speed setting you’re supposed to use for which produce.
Overall, I’m quite fine with this juicer but I think other centrifugal models do a better job at effortless assembly and disassembling. So this would not be my first recommendation for beginners.
Is It Easy to Clean?
I’ve come across quite mixed feedback on how easy it is to clean the Cuisinart CJE-1000. One kind of issue that has come up is pulp tends to get stuck in little areas and nooks that are difficult to clean even with the accompanying brush, which increases your cleaning time.
One user also suggested you should place the juicer on a dish towel because it tends to leak from unexpected areas while juicing.
Compared to other centrifugal juicers, the Cuisinart CJE-1000 also has a few extra parts to clean such as the foam management filter disk and the juice jug’s insertable foam separator.
I’d say you should expect to spend between 5 to 10 minutes getting everything cleaned up by hand.
All detachable parts are dishwasher safe—set it to low temperature only!
Should I Buy the Cuisinart CJE-1000 Juice Extractor?
I like the three unique features of this juicer, namely the:
- granular 5-speed dial control
- anti-drip flow spout
- foam management filter disk
Another bonus is that it’s not as noisy as many other centrifugal juicers, so this makes it worth considering if you need a machine that’s quick and efficient at juicing hard produce without making your neighbors mad.
With that said, you’re looking at a spacious and perhaps a bit of a messy juicer, so just keep that in mind!
While not as beginner-friendly as I would like, the Cuisinart CJE-1000 sure is a budget-friendly and powerful juicer for simple recipes using hard produce.
