Build Quality and Design
While its construction is mainly plastic, I’m very impressed with the sturdy and durable build of the Breville Juice Fountain Plus. I get the impression this juicer can last quite a while if used with care.
The juice it yields is often very frothy, but you get a nice 35.2 fl. oz. juice container that separates the froth when pouring.
In most cases, the jug’s size is more than enough for you to make juice for 2 people without interruption.
To collect the pulp, you get a large 83.2 oz. pulp container, so don’t worry about having to stop your juicing to empty it.
Another bonus is that all plastic parts are BPA-free.
I’m however disappointed that you only get a 1-year limited warranty but at the same time, I feel you can count on the juicer’s longevity.
Juice Quality and Yield
As is characteristic for a lot of centrifugal juicers, the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus shines when it comes to juicing hard produce like:
- apples
- carrots
- celery
- beetroot
The pulp is fairly dry and you can feel that most of the juice was extracted.
While this juicer also has an upper hand advantage with its 6,500 RPM low-speed setting, it still doesn’t fare so well with extracting juice from soft produce (e.g. melons, berries, plums, etc.), producing a semi-wet to soggy pulp.
The same applies with leafy greens. But if you do try to juice kale and leafy greens, one reviewer suggested you should run the pulp through the juicer again as it may give you a few more ounces of juice.
Another tip, if you’re juicing herbs, sprouts and leafy greens, is to wrap them together into a bundle or wrap them around bulky produce, then juice them on low-speed.
With all that said, if you’ve chosen a palatable combination of ingredients, you can count on the Breville Juice Fountain Plus to deliver a great tasting juice. And the jug conveniently takes care of removing the excess froth when you pour.
Performance and Noise
If noise is a concern for you, this juicer might not be your best option, as it’s pretty loud in operation especially on the high-speed setting.
One reviewer humorously said it can be like juicing with a jet engine. So if you happen to be in an apartment with poor noise isolation, or for any other reason bouts of loud noise would cause inconvenience, you may have to opt for a different model or type of juicer (such as a masticating juicer).
Noise level aside, the Breville Juice Fountain Plus will churn out juice from your produce very rapidly and is a joy to use especially with hard produce.
Is It Easy to Use?
The juicer is easy to assemble and disassemble, both of which only take a matter of seconds.
After assembly, you toggle the electronic control to choose between low-speed, high-speed or “switch off.” Which speed you should use, depends on the type of produce you’ll be juicing.
Also, if you’re juicing a mix of soft and hard produce, you simply adjust the speed according to the produce type.
Is It Easy to Clean?
Several reviewers have praised how quick and straightforward it is to clean. Here’s a video showing you how to clean the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus.
As you can tell, a thorough clean-up by hand should take no longer than 5 minutes.
In fact, you can shave off even more time by lining the pulp container with a plastic bag for collecting the pulp, then simply removing the bag when finished. This will keep the pulp container clean.
All detachable parts—except for the food pusher and cover—are dishwasher safe.
Should I Buy the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus?
This juicer won’t be for you if you’re looking for a machine that doesn’t make a lot of noise or is efficient at juicing kale and other leafy greens.
On the flip side, it’s a great choice if you want a quality-built juicer that produces great tasting juice while still being on the affordable end of the price scale. I find it user-friendly, well-designed and easy-to-clean.
In my search for feedback and reviews, I haven’t come across any problem patterns or issues affecting a lot of users, which I’m delighted with.
So, if you’re into quickly making simple juices with lots of apples, carrots, beetroots and other hard produce, the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus is an excellent choice!
