Build Quality and Design
The Breville BJE820XL was designed and engineered in Australia and is absolutely a solid machine that will demand to be shown off in your kitchen.
Yes, this also means it has a large footprint (9″ x 6.5″ x 17″) so you either need to have the storage space or find it a permanent home. I find it majestic-looking so if you have space, my advice is to leave it out.
All of its pieces intuitively click into place and it has a big safety latch that doubles up as an on/off switch.
It has one of the finest mesh filters on the market that Breville call Nutri Disc™ and this yields incredible pulp-free juices and surrounds the blade which is made from titanium.
Juice Quality and Yield
Because of the sheer size and raw power of this juicer, you’re going to get a lot of juice and you’re going to get it quickly. Couple that with Breville’s Nutri Disc™ technology and your juice is going to be as pulp-free as you can get.
The pulp is dry, especially with hard vegetables like carrots which are where it really shines. Using the mesh attachment for juicing with softer fruits, the pulp can tend to still contain juice and, therefore, be wet and soggy.
As with nearly all centrifugal juicers, your juice will contain froth. But you also get a neat lid for the jug that prevents juice splashing all over your counter while juicing, and this is something I really appreciate. In addition, it is also designed to keep the foam in the jug as you pour the juice into your glass.
Performance and Noise
The trade-off of having one of the most powerful juicer motors in town is the noise level, on its highest ‘5’ setting. This thing is loud! I describe it as a trade-off because some people will appreciate being able to juice your stuff at lightning speed.
It doesn’t perform too well with leafy greens, especially with things like kale and spinach. To be fair though, this is more a characteristic of centrifugal juicers rather than a negative I can attribute to the machine itself.
Is It Easy to Use?
In a word, yes. You snap it all together and start juicing. It really couldn’t be more simple.
It has three feet but they are made of a plastic type material, it still does the job on holding the unit in place but personally, I like to have real rubber feet on my juicer.
Is It Easy to Clean?
All the main components that need cleaning are dishwasher safe so make use of that for sure.
The mesh/blade unit can be placed in the dishwasher on the top shelf. Personally, I would use the dedicated brush that came in the box. Now, this isn’t your normal everyday brush. The filter on the BJE820XL is really the most finely woven mesh I have ever seen on a juicer. Breville designed this brush specifically.
It’s hard work but my personal recommendation is to clean the mesh manually rather than use the dishwasher. Clean not only the inside of it but give the outside a good scrub too. Another tip is to either clean the mesh and blades immediately after juicing or soak them straight away until you are ready to clean. I find it rather therapeutic.
Should I Buy the Breville Juice Fountain Duo BJE820XL?
If you’re a fan of centrifugal juicers this is really worth considering. You definitely need the space to store it or have it out all the time, but other than that this will serve you well.
I was a little disappointed at the 1-year warranty given this is Breville’s trophy juicer and think a little longer would have been nice.
It’s definitely loud as the motor is one of the most powerful I have come across so if you live in an apartment with thin walls, it may be a good idea to make your neighbors some juice at the same time!
Seriously though, the Breville Juice Fountain Duo BJE820XL is so powerful that it won’t take long to make all the juice you need, and then some!
