Build Quality and Design
The Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain is a snazzy looking juicer with a brushed metal finish and a tower-like design. Because the pulp is collected within the main housing component, it eliminates the need for a dedicated pulp bucket and these nearly always add a lot of bulk to centrifugal juicers.
Some users say that the way the pulp is collected around the edges can make it awkward to empty because it’s contained in like a groove, albeit a wide groove. I think really you just need to get a technique going on and it’ll come straight out.
The design makes it look like a sort of mushroom and this gives it a remarkably small footprint so if space is an issue I would seriously consider this juicer.
Juice Quality and Yield
The 14,000 RPM means it juices in seconds, literally. The juice is forced into that juicing jug very quickly. The downside with this is that the juice then contains a lot of air which compromises its quality. Oxidation is the one thing we all have to contend with when using centrifugal juicers. It’s like when you cut an apple and it starts to turn brown.
The shelf-life of the juice is approximately 24 hours and although I wouldn’t disagree with this, I would say the quicker you drink the juice the better though this is a good rule-of-thumb anyway with any juicer.
With hard fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots, the pulp is satisfyingly dry and this juicer is really good for this. As with most centrifugal juicers, it isn’t so great at juicing soft produce.
Performance and Noise
I can’t say this isn’t a loud machine. 14,000 RPM is loud no matter what is spinning that fast I’m sure. However, compared to other juicers in this class this is not the loudest. Even if you think it is, you’ll be juicing so fast that it’ll be over in no time.
My tip here’s not to have it running all the time, literally turn it on, juice using the food pusher, then turn it off until you’re ready for your next piece.
Several users have been using this machine year after year every day and they are totally in love with it which is a great endorsement. Often with mechanical parts, especially powerful ones, you think they may not last long but with the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain, this definitely isn’t the case as it has a loyal fanbase.
Is It Easy to Use?
You can make juice so fast and wash everything up so quickly, that juicing with the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain isn’t actually a big deal.
Not only do you have fewer pieces because there’s no pulp bucket, there are no variable speeds, there’s just on and off so you don’t have to memorize anything, you just turn it on and juice!
It’s probably the easiest juicer I have come across in terms of assembling, cleaning and making juice.
Is It Easy to Clean?
Other than the juice jug you only have very few pieces to clean and that’s a big positive in my book. All of the components are dishwasher safe but I think it’s still good to use the supplied brush and clean the mesh filter by hand, even if you then still place it in the washer.
The lid with its 3-inch chute is particularly well designed as there are simply no little areas where food gets stuck and you have to do gymnastics with your fingers or random utensils to get it out. Even if you don’t have a dishwasher, this cleans up in no time at all.
Should I Buy the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain?
If you are living alone, or the only one that juices in your family, on a budget and you don’t have much space, get this now.
For a family or even if there are two of you, I’d probably look at buying another juicer with a dedicated pulp bucket because when this gets full, you have to stop and take it all apart before you can continue juicing.
I wish this was around when I was at college as it’s almost unbelievably affordable and so convenient.
